Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25th October 2026
Drift Radio is designed to remember as little as possible.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Drift Radio handles when you use Drift Radio, Drift Space, or the Drift Protocol.
What we remember
Drift Radio does not require an account, email address, or personal profile.
The Drift Protocol may remember:
- Your nickname.
- A cryptographic hash of the secret associated with a registered nickname.
Secrets are stored as hashes and are never stored in plaintext. Drift Radio cannot retrieve your original secret. There is no password recovery mechanism.
Registered nicknames that have not been used for 30 days are removed from the protocol's memory.
What we don't keep
Drift Protocol does not retain or archive chat messages.
Chat messages are broadcast to other drifters in the same temporal chat space and are not stored as chat history.
Drift Protocol does not intentionally keep or archive IP logs. Network information may necessarily be processed temporarily as part of establishing and maintaining a WebSocket connection, but Drift Protocol does not maintain a history of those connections on our end.
We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or other personal information as part of using Drift Radio.
Browser storage
Drift Space and Drift Net use browser storage for basic functionality.
localStorage is used to remember your:
- theme preference.
- Volume level.
- Player state.
sessionStorage is used to maintain your temporary nickname while moving between stations during a browser session, and to keep the most recent chat submission locally.
This information is stored in your browser and is not a user profile maintained by Drift Radio.
Analytics
Drift Radio uses Vercel Analytics to understand general usage of the website and improve the service.
Analytics is separate from the Drift Protocol's chat functionality.
Radio streams
Drift Radio does not proxy, record, or store radio streams.
When you listen to a station, your browser connects directly to the third-party radio stream. Those radio stations and their infrastructure may process information about your connection according to their own privacy policies. Drift Radio does not control how third-party stations handle that information.
Children
Drift Radio is not specifically directed at children.
The chat spaces intentionally have limited moderation and do not provide the kinds of safeguards normally found on services designed specifically for children.
Changes to this policy
Drift Radio is a small project which may change over time. If our data practices change, this Privacy Policy may be updated accordingly.
The latest version will always be available on this page.
