The Concept

Drift Concept

Drift Radio is an experiment in online ephemeral presence. It is a place designed for temporary gathering around live signals.

Pick a signal. Listen for a while. See who happens to be there. Maybe talk. Maybe don't. Stay for five minutes or stay for an hour.

Each station channel is a temporal chat space. It only exists when someone is around. It disappears when the last person leaves.

Why this exists

The Internet today, by default, will attempt to remember everything. Every post accumulates into an archive. It builds profiles, measures behaviour, and designs itself around engagement. Every user action becomes another data point to capture, analyse, and feed into the learning machine. Big data.

Drift Radio is an attempt to try something different.

Ephemeral by default

  • No chat history.
  • No message archive.
  • No permanent social layer.
  • No follower system.
  • No profiles.
  • No likes.
  • No engagement counters.
  • No permanent social graph.
